Detention!

On Wednesday, we took a trip over to the town where we'll be moving to meet David's new principal (a nice, nice man), and to find a place to live (not what we expected). While we were at the school, the principal "invited" Lucy into this detention room. She had a lot of fun in there. She looks like she's trying to get out in this picture, but the truth is that every time I opened the door to let her out, she closed it again so she could stay in there.

David got to see his new classroom, and meet a couple of the teachers. I think he is excited to get started, but also a little nervous too. Things will work out though, his mentor teacher for this year will be teaching right across the hall.

So now, all we have to do is get things in boxes, and actually find some place to live by next Saturday. (Ah, the joys of small town living.)

The second picture here was taken in David's classroom. Lucy saw him sitting on top of the desk, so she thought it was good enough for her too.

Say What? (Lucy's Hearing Test)

Today we took Lucy to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. Her pediatrician was concerned because she still had fluid in her ears from an ear infection that occurred almost 3 months ago.

So when we got to see the doctor, he checked her ears and the mysterious fluid had vanished. But he wanted to check her hearing anyway to see if there was any residual problem that might affect her speech and language development.

Off we went to the sound-proof booth, which had a speaker on the right and a speaker on the left. The technician played a variety of sounds at different volumes randomly through both speakers in turn. Sometimes she called Lucy's name, other times there was a sound like a cricket chirping, or a low buzz, and also a fuzzy, static noise.

As far as I could tell, Lucy turned her head to the correct side almost every time, and the doctor said her hearing is excellent. What a smartie!

Hi Ai-ya-ya!

Here's Lucy with her cousin Aiyanna. Aiyanna looks thrilled, huh? Lucy has learned to say "Hi" this week, and will soon be greeting everyone over and over and over again.

It's cute to hear Lucy say hello to Aiyanna. Lucy gets right in her face and says, "Hi, Ai-ya-ya!" This is almost as sweet as when she says hello to me. As soon as she sees me, she calls out, "Hi, Gina!"

I guess she figured that if every one else gets my attention by using my name, then it would work for her too. I don't think it will be as darling when she's 14, though.

Field Trip!

Today we took Lucy and her Uncle Ben out to Lattin's Apple Cider Mill. It's a local farm that sells their own produce as well as apple cider (and other flavors, like yummy Strawberry Apple Cider). They also have farm animals to see, touch, and feed. For the low price of 50 cents per bag of feed, we gave some chickens, geese, and goats a mid-morning snack. We saw two "buh-bees" (bunnies), some "gows" (cows), and smelled some "ah-foos" (flowers).

She was a little nervous around the goats, but frankly, who wouldn't be? Those buggers will eat the shoelaces off your shoes if they have the chance. The babies are sure cute though.

I've decided to create this blog to keep everyone up-to-date on all things Lucy. I'll post pictures as well as a few words on whatever cute thing she says or does. I'm setting a goal to update this at least once a week.
