Weekend Stuff

This past weekend was our town's annual start-of-summer festival. They had lots of people come to entertain the masses, a quilt show, people selling their wares on the courthouse lawn, carnival rides, and a parade, among other things. We took Lucy and her Uncle Ben (who was here visiting) to ride the rides and see the parade. We took a lot of pictures, here's just a few to show how much "fun" we had.

Friday
Looking confident for her first ever roller coaster ride...

Halfway through...

And finally, RELIEF that it's over.

Sitting on top of the world...or at least the top of the fun house.

So much for that confidence!
(check out the grip she's got on Daddy's pants)

On the purple boat.

Taken about 10 seconds before she said, "I'm done."

Saturday
Dancing at the courthouse before the parade.

The American Legion led the parade.

"Look, Dad! PRINCESSES!"
(it was the "Jr. Miss" float with all the girls sporting their tiaras.)

A few of the neat things we saw:
(by no means is this a comprehensive photo essay of the parade)One of several vintage military vehicles
that was restored by a local family.

A 1936 John Deere

The Cossack Motorcycle Stunt Riders
(just one of the many
cool/dangerous things they can do)

A few of our county's veterans.

Our town's first fire engine (1939?)
(This was at the end of a procession
of ALL the fire engines our county has.)

Our Little (Hell's) Angel

A family we are friends with has invited us out to their house a couple of times for good food and fun activities--namely, go carts and motorcycle rides. Lucy was hesitant about even going near the go cart or the motorcycles, but once we bribed her (with fruit snacks) into getting on the go cart with Mom, she had a blast. Here are a few pictures of our adventure:
