I Love Lucy!

Weights and Measures

Lucy got in on the action at the doctor's office. She was weighed and measured as well, and she is a startling 36 pounds, and a frightening 39 inches tall. That puts her in the 90th percentile for weight and height. We should change her name to Sasquatch.

It's been over 2 months since my last post here, and I want all Lucy and Amy fans out there to know that I do not neglect my children the way I neglect their blogs. You will see by the pictures that they are well fed and are wearing mostly clean clothing. Usually their faces are clean too!

And please know that I AM losing sleep over the fact that I have not kept you updated as I should. (Either that, or I'm losing sleep because Amy has been waking up during the night due to teething issues.)

So, without further delay, here's what you've been missing!

For the record, I do not jog. I also do not run. But I have been known to walk quickly, and this stroller has really been a luxury. I can take a walk whenever I darn well feel like it.

Cookies, Computers, and Ballet! Oh my!

A Lucy update is LONG overdue. Many apologies. According to the doctor, Lucy's ears are again perfectly healthy. She still has trouble listening, though, and I'm wondering if maybe it has nothing at all to do with her ears! She's a good girl most of the time, and is growing up more and more every day.

She has discovered the computer games at Nick Jr. She's gotten very good at using the mouse, and enjoys spending a little time "gaming" in the evenings.

We also spent some time making cookies. Lucy was in charge of the mixer, as well as licking the beater. She rolled out the dough, and cut it with her Noah's Ark cookie cutters.

We didn't get any pictures of the cookies, however. As a general rule, when doubling a recipe, it is vitally important to double EVERY ingredient in the recipe. This part was my fault. I don't think we could have called what came out of the oven "cookies", per se. It was more like lumpy, buttery, blobs. (Cut me some slack, though, wouldja? I had Amy in the bouncy seat, Lucy chomping at the bit, and the phone rang twice.)

Last Tuesday was Lucy's 1st ballet class. She actually kept up pretty well. Here are a couple of pictures, and I will get a video posted tomorrow or the next day. (Read: by the end of the month.)

The class is actually very affordable--$22 a month, for a once-a-week, one hour lesson. Of course, there's always the "hidden" costs like the $8 leotard and $4 tights (thanks to Granmom E for buying the ballet shoes), as well at the $53.36 I dropped on the first day for the very darling costume she will wear for a few hours one night in June. At least we get to keep it, right?

And finally, we have the birthday party. Cousin Aiyanna came to visit with her mom, uncle, and grandparents. Lucy's party has had many incantations--a ballet party, a Tinkerbell party, and an Ariel party. We finally ended up with a Pink Princess Party.

The girls made their own pizzas and decorated their own cupcakes, complete with a candle to blow out right along with the birthday girl. When all was said and done, I think they each took about 3 bites of pizza apiece, along with a spoonful of ice cream after licking the frosting off their cupcakes and nibbling at the cake. But a fun time was had by all. Next year? A family party.

The Definitely Necessary Lucy Update

Like I mentioned on Amy's blog, we've had a lot of holiday fun, but this past week was filled with stuffy noses, coughing, and for Lucy, ear infections in both ears that the doctor called "raging". Her ears must have been pretty mad about her getting sick, and decided to go on strike. Maybe that's why she's had trouble listening lately!

Anyway, I picked up her medicine Wednesday evening from Rite Aid, whose slogan is "With us, it's personal." I love that. Rite Aid is taking an interest not only in keeping my business, but also in the health of my children. So imagine my surprise when I take out the bottle at home, and read the label: "1/2 teaspoon, twice a day for 10 days. Keep refrigerated, shake well before use. Finish all medication unless directed by your doctor. May interfere with birth control pills, consult your physician before taking." Wow. If that's not personal, I don't know what is.

She is getting better. Her appetite is getting back to normal, and she's been sleeping well. She'll see the doctor again in a couple of weeks when Amy has her 4-month check-up to make sure the infection is gone.

On a higher note, she has grown to 38 inches tall. Average height for a 3-year-old is 33.5 inches. She'll pass us soon if she keeps growing at this rate. Many thanks to all her grandparents and aunts and uncles who thought to buy 4T and 5T clothing for Christmas. She needs it!

Gramma P took all of us to ride the Santa Train on December 3rd. It was REALLY fun, and REALLY cold, but well worth it for the little kids. Enjoy these pictures!
